The office joker

This is the kind of guy that enjoys the odd practical joke or five and is always last out on a work get-together. He’ll gladly take any opportunity to misuse office equipment for ‘comic purposes’ and is always the first to initiate an office chair race on the last day of work before Christmas.

Always one to make an entrance, ‘the office joker’ is sure to have the funniest costume – preferably one that gives him plenty of scope for funny poses and photo opportunities.

Secret santa ideas: A comedy mug or a tacky-tastic tie.

If you fancy a Christmas costume with a comic book twist, try our Super Reindeer Costume!.

The girly girl

This is the one renowned for over-dressing and under-dressing – bizarrely the two seem to go hand in hand.

She wouldn’t be seen dead in jeans and a t-shirt and the same applies to fancy dress. No unisex or comedy costumes here, the ‘girly girl’ wants to look fantastic – whether it’s Christmas, Halloween or a pirate party.

She arrives in typical style for the office party, dressed as one of Santa’s sexiest helpers. For her, the evening is spent dancing and drinking, with regular intervals in the festivities to check on her makeup.

The spreadsheet addict

Every aspect of her life is tracked by a spreadsheet. And before it gets to Excel, the thought probably began life on one of her detailed lists.

She organised the office party using just 36 spreadsheets this year – a 9% reduction compared with last year. However, spreadsheets out of the way, she really lets her hair down at the office party – and the novelty costume she eagerly bought in July really comes into its own.

Secret santa ideas: Any kind of stationery.

For a hilarious costume that’s fun to wear, try our Snowman All-in-One Fat Costume.

The office mystery

They sit down, work, have lunch, work again and then go home – without saying a word. You don’t know if they’re married, single, where they live, what their previous job was or what they get up to at weekends. The curiosity has probably got the better of you by now and you’ve tried to stalk them on Facebook, but with no success.

The office party comes around and you’re still none the wiser about who they actually are. And to be fair, in this costume, it’s only by a process of elimination that you realise it’s them.

Secret santa ideas: Your guess is as good as ours.

The dancing diva

She’s the first on the dance floor and the last off, and does not approve of people trying to get out of the Macarena by saying “I don’t dance”. And there’s no use arguing with her, you might as well go out there and sway a little to the music to keep her happy.

As the ‘life and soul of the party’, she’s also the one to initiate the conga and keep the music turned up to the max. And when the first few notes of Last Christmas kick in, she looks like she might explode with excitement.

By the end of the evening, she’ll become of festive blur of red and green, as she dances the night away.

Secret santa ideas: Pack of mini spirits and cocktail mixers.

The Christmas fanatic

From the time she put the Christmas countdown calendar up in the kitchen on 11th March, you knew she was going to be unbearable for the whole of December. With a desk to rival Santa’s grotto, the Christmas fanatic gets into the festive spirit from around mid-November, with a new sparkling or flashing object added to her desk every day. And with her headphones in, she hums merrily all day long.

Although she’s been looking forward to it all year, when the day finally comes she spectacularly peaks too soon. The office party was just too exciting.

Secret santa ideas: A Christmas decoration for the tree – although judging by the volume of decorations on her desk, one extra decoration on the tree at home might be more than the branches can bear!

The ‘I don’t do dressing up’ person

There’s always one – the one that does not under any circumstances dress up. They can usually be forced into a hat, after much badgering, and it’s a dressing up technique they stick with all year round.

As Christmas goes hand-in-hand with dressing up, the ‘I don’t do dressing up’ person is often a bit of a scrooge about the whole season. This hat is about as much festive cheer as they can muster.

Secret santa ideas: Avoid anything Christmassy or wearable

The ghost of Christmas past

He ‘left’ about six months ago but he still manages to get an invite for just about every work social going – even the fairly impromptu get-togethers. You’re starting to worry whether he even has a new job.

His surprise appearance is always welcome, if a little odd. It does tend to confuse the newbies though! The strangest thing about it is that he never seemed to enjoy the office Christmas party while he was an employee, yet he’s back for more.

Secret santa ideas: A souvenir from the office – perhaps a company-branded mug?

Whether you’re invited to the party or not, get into the festive spirit this Christmas with our best bah humbug second skin costume.

The office grump

'This is the kind of guy who has a grumpy slogan on his mug of coffee. He doesn't want to join in the office Bake-off and when it comes to Christmas it's all "Bah Humbug".

He’s the first to complain if the bins aren't emptied and the last person to do anything about it. If something needs doing he might get round to it reluctantly otherwise it just gets lost in a heap of papers on his desk. He's got plenty of advice for the government and for the manager of his football team.

Secret santa ideas: Let’s face it; you’re going to struggle to put a smile on his face. However, he can’t complain with a nice bottle of beer.

If you’re more of a scrooge than a Santa, try our bah humbug set.
